Hesitation to Collaboration

There is a challenging project that was waiting for me to undertake a while ago.

The project has got to do with creating a course structure of teaching by the Gottama, the Buddha, his verbatim.

The challenge are 1) unclear outcome, (what sort of output it going to be), 2) resources like time, and the most important challenge is #3) I’m a monk.

Monk? can’t do a project? well… here is analogy. Monk is one who live homelessness life, content with saffron robes and alms-food, eliminate needs and desires, and dwell in secluded place like forest or root of tree.

It quite a contrast compare to ‘getting things done’, ‘asking people do deliver this and that’, ‘managing budget and project schedule’, ‘checking email and answering a call’, ‘maneuver with people’s mind to gain their cooperation’, etc…

Considering thus, my mind inclined to inaction rather than to take lead in the project,

Then, what made me change my mind was the plead by the Brahma Sahampati (สมหบดีพรหม)

…Surveying the world with the eye of a Buddha, I saw beings with little dust in their eyes and with much dust in their eyes, with keen faculties and with dull faculties, with good qualities and with bad qualities, easy to teach and hard to teach, and some who dwelled seeing fear and blame in the other world…–MN26; I167-73

There is beings with little dust in their eyes with keen faculties, it will be a loss to those being.

Hence I decided to undergo some hurdle and finish the project as long as my actions kept under monk morality, with logical and credible deeds for the benefits of others
