When I wrote The Path in lifecoachesblog.com last month about what changes I’ve been through in the last couple of years since I’ve started put on saffron robes, It’s truly my reflection.
In the post, I wrote about “Eight Noble Path” that leads me to where I am today. And when I looked back, it didn’t actually learn “The Path” before, I was just merely “Know” it.
Have you ever ride a bicycle before? If yes, have you read the book title like “10 Easy Steps on How To Ride a Bicycle”? Probably not, when kids want to ride a bicycle they just hop on it, tumble a few times or a few hundred times then they can ride a bicycle.
They LEARN by doing it.
Reading more books, interview with many peoples is just process of preparing yourself to really learn.
Same as the Teaching (Dhamma). Buddha use the word “Sika” (สิกขา) for all of his teaching. The word “Sika” literary means “Learn and Act” in the same word, it’s more like a Verb. Not Learn by Knowing it, but LEARN by Doing it. And he use “Seka” (เสขะ) means “Learner” and explain it as one who has to practice more.
Buddha suggested 3 easy steps to LEARN anythings (such as Four Noble Truth);
- Aware that there are thing that I don’t know
- Know that I should learn it.
- Do it until succeed.
In his “Learning Process” has “ACTION”. So when Buddha teach you any concepts, it involve these 3 step.
Buddha also laid down ACTION into 3 domains.
- Physical Action
- Verbal Action
- Mental Action
Some concept should be act in Physical Domain, some in Verbal Domain, some in Mental Domain. And these domains shouldn’t be mixed up when you LEARN it. I’ll ellaborate more in my next post.
Be well.
